Lights In The Sky

Last night I gazed up at the stars for only a second.  I was leaving to pick up my hubby at the airport.  Who was the crazy person who picked this un-godly hour to arrive somewhere anyway, I joked with him later.

The truth is, there normally is a grain of truth to every “joke” told.  I didn’t really want to get up and have to get him at midnight.

In my rush to the mommy-mobile, God’s greatness caught my attention!  I quickly looked up at the open sky over our meadow, and became suddenly thankful.  Thankful that I was awake to see this!  It was almost impossible to miss.

It’s funny how God knows how to stop me in my tracks in only a second flat.

I saw a deep and wide, almost endless span of dark sky, infiltrated with thousands of little white lights.  The night is the stars time to play with their good friend moon.  It’s as if they love to do it!

It reminded me a little of the Christian life.  I live a life of light with darkness all around me.  Sometimes encircling me, as if it could swallow me up into its black hole.

But I have learned from experience a little something in my 30 years.  I serve a God who is greater than all this.  In fact, He created it!  Spiritual darkness is nothing to be afraid of when you personally know the one who planned to redeem it!

I think to myself, I want to be redeemed.  I know I am.  Now I get it, at least I get more of it.

I was once part of the dark expanse of endless sky, and He invited me over to be a light.  And after all this time of searching I’m finally resting.

He is teaching me like the majestic composer of light that He is, how to “twinkle”.

How do I reflect the light from the God of perfection?

The truth is, I’m a star in His heavenly kingdom!

It doesn’t get much better than that.

So maybe the next time I have to arise early, or stay up and miss my beauty sleep, I’ll remember last night.  My memory will tell me that viewing more of God’s glory completely overrides losing a few Zzzz’s.

Do you know why?  It’s because His glory is better than all of this.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.  Matthew 5:16 NIV

It’s all His glory!

Today, you are His star …. and He wants to light you up.

Shine.

I love this song…
