Winter Growing

I stepped outside after grilled cheese and soup.  It’s funny when the thing you don’t plan for turns into the best part.  Just before the husky got loose to run off to visit the neighbor’s horses and my adrenaline heightens with a little bit of worry… I experience a moment filled by stillness.

I wandered off but not too far.  The kids were distracted by fun, climbing up and sliding down our private little plowed up man-made hill in our own backyard.  And I stood there, alone but never really, and watched them from a distance.  I saw them up close.

You see, sometimes as mother’s or any kind of life-liver we’re just too close to see something different.  We’re too busy “taking care” of the moment that we don’t really experience it.

All I hear is the swishing of little legs telling snow pants to keep moving from my youngest girl, the laughter of my little boy, and the strength and energy of my oldest pushing up the hill for more.  And I’m just breathing, and staring, and finding the present moment.

Thank God, for changing seasons, changing times, and the changing of hearts… so we can see His work again.  This is Life at our fingertips, friend.

While Wintertime may not be your favorite time it breeds good ground to slow down and reflect from other seasons activities.
How will you enJOY your Winter season, friend?

Hello friend, how I love those little faces. Sometimes, it’s experiencing the moment itself that is hard, the thing we avoid. Sometimes, we speed up so we don’t have to look at moments and see, really see what’s there– or feel. I’m praying slowing down for the both of us, Present, whatever it may look like. We’re so lucky to have a kind God…

I love those faces too! :) He’s providing more joy in little moments than ever before. Getting comfortable in our own skin in front of Him… He’s so good to us! ~ Love you friend, Amy

  2. Hi Amy!
Some friends and I were talking today about how much we enjoy an occasional big snow. It’s so nice to sit and watch it fall, then get up and stir a big pot of chili simmering on the stove :) But EVERY day can be savored if we’ll take the time.
Love that shot of the cute girls :)

  3. “We’re too busy “taking care” of the moment that we don’t really experience it.” — I stand guilty of this Amy. And oh, how I strive to really be present in body and spirit – not just going through the motions of life. ;)

    Lovely post and beautiful children,
    Love, Hester ;)

With all that I have on my plate between my job, housework and trying to keep the schedule of 3 kids with 3 sets of parents straight I often just rush through everything. I need to slow down and savor the time I do have with my precious babies. Thank you for the reminder. :)

  6. Hi Amy,

The swishing of snowpants… yes, I know that sound! Add to that the crunch of new snow underfoot and the quiet winter wind and it evokes feelings of relaxing in me.

I loved seeing your children’s happy faces in the snow! How I miss those days! We used to live in NH and Maine about 16 years ago, but now live in Florida, where it never snows! Our middle son still lives in Lyman, ME, with his wife and our only grandson, Noah. Our son, Matthew, has cancer, and we will be going up to visit him later in Feb., to celebrate his 40th birthday. Yes, treasure these happy snowy days with your babies…they do grow up so quickly…and we never know how many days we will have to enjoy them. Blessings to you and your family today.

Thank you Pam and it’s nice to “meet” you. I have said a prayer for healing for your son’s body. May you continue to blossom and experience His Presence and peace as you travel with your loved ones and reach out where you can. ~ Love out, Amy
