The other morning I asked my oldest to jump in and help unload the clean dishes. You never know what you’re gonna’ get when you ask for help, do you. I wasn’t shocked when she answered she didn’t want to and while I appreciate her honesty, I asked her again anyway.
Who really wants to begin a day in a negative way?
I walked away and within a few minutes time something in her changed. I could hear her humming when she called me in to see her work. She hadn’t just put the dishes away, she had made a display! With our assorted colors combined she found almost all the colors of the rainbow and stacked them up high.
She may not have noticed but I saw truth in it. God was here for a visit. One of His promises was at rest in my kitchen. When we choose to do right, we’re blessed in return.
There’s power in small moments.
How do we take the mundane and make it beautiful? Sometimes, we luck out and just fall into the flow but other times we have to make conscious choices to change our own attitude and look on the bright side of things. We have to search for our rainbow.
How often in every day life do we have the chance to turn something around but we’re too blinded by our own attitude? We’re so closed we can’t even see the promise standing in front of us. As we grow older than 8 years old this becomes a skill. We have to see it to practice the artistry of creating beauty in each moment. Small moments can make up big living! What a difference it would make if all our small moments were good moments… It was something that my little girl and me got to experience together that day.
We don’t have to wait any longer if we embrace the promise God has already given. How will you find your rainbow today, friend?

Sometimes my rainbows come through birds peeking through bare winter branches or grandkids’ toys layed out on my floor. All colorful gifts from heaven’s door.
Sweet, teachable moments, Amy. Thanks for sharing today
Beautiful words Dawn, thanks so much for sharing yourself with us! ~Love, Amy
Again, the little ones are teaching us! Love the vividness of the true colors that reflect how joy and creativity moved in to your ‘young’ one’s heart! And it just got ‘passed’ along to the ‘us’s’ who read this post!!
I know Joanne, we can learn so much from being around them! Thank you for reading along and sharing here. You always bless me. ~ Love, Amy
Oh Amy, I’m smiling at your bright Fiesta ware — I have a pastel collection!
It’s funny that so many of my rainbow moments are in the kitchen, doing the seemingly mundane. It’s in the daily stuff that God speaks to me, so I try to remember to pray or go over some verse I’m trying to memorize. Somedays are easier than others, I must admit
I have many chores in the kitchen as well Susan and it is also something I have to almost daily ask God to help me with… seeing joy and giving thanks in the mundane. Inside those moments that to an onlooker appear the same as usual but if looked at carefully find new life moments waiting there. ~ Love out sister, Amy
Amy,
I love this story and practical insight.
Thank you for blessing us. I love this line, “We have to search for our rainbow.” You are soooooooooooo right — we certainly can change our attitude, but why is it we wallow sometimes?? I’m guilty and I hate it when I do that.
God bless you and your daughter Amy,
Love, Hester
Yes, it’s like trying to live out that 1 Thess. verse that says, give thanks in ALL things. I’m growing convinced that I can’t do it alone. I need God’s help to produce my rainbow for sure… and He is faithful! ~ Love you girl, Amy
Amy- I love this and love the example your daughter has given my heart! The rainbow – a symbol that God has given as a promise never to flood the earth again… I think how He never allows the “flood” of life to take me under either…praise Him! We are currently on vacation and I am spending time with lots of friends and mentors who have known me for a long time. Our stories are full of the little yet divine moments. It’s a beautiful “God” thing
Love you sister!
Tracy, I love your words… Enjoy being near those people who know you so well and soaking up God’s rest and goodness! ~Love you girl, Amy
Oh how I love this… growing up, when my mom would ask us to do something and we said no, she’d break into song of praise. right then and there. and at the time, we’d do the chore just to make her stop:) but now…I see…how His song in our hearts causes rainbows to bounce off the counters…the walls…the curtains of our everyday. YES! Thank you, friend, for reminding me of this!
Nikki, what a funny, smart Mom you have! I’ve never heard this before.
Love it! And yes, the reflection of His rainbow/promise to us bouncing off our walls…what a joyful visual!

Loved this story, Amy. And the picture is beautiful!!
Thank you, Natasha! It’s amazing what we can learn with the “little people”. God is good. ~ Blessings, Amy
I am a little late in finding this, but think it was meant to be that I found it today

That’s wonderful Erin! Thanks for sharing girl! Make it a great weekend out there! ~ Blessings, Amy
